Nominate Your Local Neighbourhood Police Officer for a Community Police Award

Dear Neighbourhood Watch Members and Volunteers

As part of Neighbourhood Watch Week, we are delighted to launch the inaugural Neighbourhood Watch Network Community Police Awards.

These new awards recognise and celebrate the dedicated neighbourhood police officers who go above and beyond to help communities feel safer, stronger and more connected.

We are grateful to VISAV, the company behind the Neighbourhood Alert system, for sponsoring these awards and helping us recognise the outstanding contribution that neighbourhood police officers make to communities across the country.

Supporting the awards, Sarah Jones MP, Minister for Policing and Crime, said:

Through the Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee this Government has committed to ensuring every community has visible, accessible neighbourhood officers they can rely on. I am proud to support the inaugural Neighbourhood Watch Network Community Police Awards, which shine an important light on those working closely with residents to build trust, reduce fear of crime and strengthen community confidence."

Every day, neighbourhood officers work alongside residents, volunteers and local organisations to prevent crime, build trust and support community wellbeing. These awards are an opportunity to thank those officers whose commitment has made a real difference in the communities they serve.

Who can be nominated?

Nominations are open for serving members of Neighbourhood Policing Teams, including:

1. Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs)
2. Police Constables (PCs)
3. Sergeants
4. Inspectors

What are we looking for?

We want to hear about officers who have:

1. Worked with Neighbourhood Watch to help a community feel safer or to improve community connections.
2. Supported a Neighbourhood Watch group or individual member in their activities – this may include participating in local litter picks or community events, delivering or supporting crime prevention meetings, or working collaboratively to resolve a specific issue and achieve a positive outcome.
3. Helped to establish new Neighbourhood Watch schemes or contributed to the growth and strengthening of existing schemes – for example, by encouraging new membership or supporting residents to set up a scheme in their area.

Who can nominate?

Anyone can submit a nomination, including:

1. Members of the public
2. Neighbourhood Watch members
3. Neighbourhood Watch volunteers and Coordinators

You will be asked to provide:

1. Basic details about the officer you are nominating
2. The team they work with
3. Examples of how they have made a positive difference in your community

Please note that nominations can only be accepted for officers who are currently serving within a Neighbourhood Policing Team.

Neighbourhood policing plays a vital role in creating safer communities and stronger local relationships. By recognising officers who take the time to listen, care and work alongside residents, we celebrate the power of partnership between the police and local people.
